Mentorship Program

AFP San Antonio is proud to offer a professional Mentoring Program!  The AFP San Antonio Mentoring Program’s mission is to support development professionals in the San Antonio nonprofit community by building strong relationships with experienced, community leaders. We offer opportunities for members who are new to the area or new to the field to learn through interactions with colleagues who have significant fundraising experience.

Program Highlights:

  • Creates the opportunity for a mutually beneficial relationship
  • Builds a stronger fundraising community in the San Antonio area
  • Fosters AFP ethics and incorporates AFP programs and services into San Antonio nonprofits
  • Provides tips, guidance and structure for mentor relationships to thrive
  • Both mentor and mentee will grow professionally through this program!

Mentees benefit from AFP San Antonio mentors though:

  • Meeting one-on-one with mentor via in-person, telephone or e-mail contact monthly
  • Identifying goals and communicating them as clearly as possible to mentor
  • Gaining new perspectives, suggestions and development opportunities from mentor
  • Participating in AFP networking and educational events
  • Broadening professional networks within the field
  • Making a lifelong personal and professional friend

Mentor Qualifications

  • A current member of AFP San Antonio Chapter
  • At least seven years of experience as a professional fundraiser
  • Embraces and upholds the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards
  • Has the time, ability and availability to commit to a year-long mentorship
  • Ability to take time out for self-assessment
  • This is a twelve-month commitment, with the goal of connecting monthly (in-person, telephone or e- mail meetings)

Mentee Qualifications

  • A current member of AFP San Antonio Chapter
  • New to the fundraising profession, little fundraising experience, pursuing a career change, new to the San Antonio Chapter/area, or needing expertise in a new area (ie capital campaign, major gifts, etc.).
  • Embraces and upholds the AFP Code of Ethical Principals and Standards
  • Ability to take time out for self-assessment
  • Has the time, ability and availability to commit to a year-long mentorship
  • This is a twelve-month commitment, with the goal of connecting monthly (in-person, telephone or e-mail meetings).
