Legislative Update (02.01.17)
As legislative agendas unfold in Washington and Austin, AFP will be busy on both the national and state policy fronts. The first shot in the advocacy campaign will be fired on February 16th with the 100 Years of Giving DC Fly-In that the Charitable Giving Coalition is conducting (and that AFP chairs). AFP members from across the country are joining together to help educate members of Congress about why now, after 100 years since the charitable deduction was signed into law, philanthropy needs to be strengthened and enhanced. At the state level, the Austin Chapter is helping coordinate the 2017 AFP Texas Legislative Day on March 30th. The goal is to have all 12 Texas AFP chapters represented this year. Our San Antonio chapter has participated in the past, and chapter members are invited to participate and meet with members of the 85th Texas Legislature and staff. The event will feature a day-long agenda (8:30 a.m. through 5 p.m.) featuring “how-to” briefing sessions, legislative visits, and concluding with a reception. Watch for more details on carpooling and other logistics.
