Harriet Dominique is USAA’s Senior Vice President, Corporate Responsibility and Community Affairs and President of The USAA Foundation, Inc., and The USAA Educational Foundation. Dominique is a highly accomplished business and CSR leader responsible for USAA’s philanthropic strategies, investments and engagement initiatives. She leads a high performing team focused on improving military family resiliency, increasing investments in military philanthropy across the nation and strengthening the local communities where USAA has a significant physical presence.
Under Dominique’s leadership, USAA has developed a focused, data-driven, and results-oriented approach to corporate responsibility around six focus areas – three at the national level supporting military causes, and three addressing local community needs. She also led the transformation of The USAA Educational Foundation to elevate its focus on improving financial readiness among military service members and their families. Additionally, she drove significant increased commitment for USAA’s national philanthropic investments to include two paid volunteer days for employees and more than doubled USAA’s corporate financial investment to 1% of Pre-Tax Income for its corporate responsibility programs.
Dominique has overseen USAA philanthropic initiatives that have contributed to the effective end of veteran homelessness in San Antonio; increased crisis support for families of fallen service members through the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS); created, in collaboration with PsychArmor Institute, the first online school to address the unique needs of military and veteran caregivers and families; and introduced STEMvest, a revolutionary program to elevate science, technology, engineering, math and financial literacy education across San Antonio public school districts, delivered by Discovery Education and Texas Association for Supervision of Curriculum Development.
In 2016, the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship highlighted Dominique’s leadership and USAA’s approach to corporate responsibility as a best practice in The Corporate Citizen magazine. In 2017, USAA ranked No. 35 on Fortune’s 50 Best Workplaces for Giving Back, was named a Corporate Responsibility Champion for Community Outreach by the Council on Corporate Responsibility and was recognized with the Texas Governor’s Volunteer Award for Corporate Community Impact.
Dominique is widely recognized as a champion for military philanthropy and is highly sought-after to engage corporations seeking to elevate their philanthropic support for active-duty service members, veterans and military families. She provided thought leadership input to author Thomas Meyer’s 2017 book Uniform Champions: A Wise Giver’s Guide to Excellent Assistance for Veterans; Blue Star Families’ Corporate Playbook for Supporting Military Families; and CECP – The CEO Force for Good’s Good Beyond Giving study and white paper defining how companies are using innovative initiatives beyond traditional corporate philanthropy and engaging employees to drive social impact.
Dominique serves on the advisory council of the Council on Foundations, is a philanthropic advisor on the White Oak national steering committee and member of The Conference Board’s Program Advisory Committee. She also is recognized for diversity and inclusion expertise and serves on the board of the National Diversity Council and co-chairs USAA’s Executive Diversity Advisory Group, which provides leadership and guidance to advance the organization’s diversity and inclusion priorities while ensuring alignment with its business priorities.
